Alfalfa hay meal should be dark green, green or light green meal, consistent color, grass
flavor, no odor, no fermentation, mildew, or caking present.
 Moisture, coarse ash content shall not exceed 12%.
 Alfalfa grass meal shall not contain toxic and harmful substances and shall not be mixed
with any other substances other than this grass powder. If antioxidant, anti-mildew agent
and other additives are added, the name, composition and dosage of the added substances
shall be indicated.
 Health standards should comply with the provisions of GB 13078.
 Crushing particle size should be based on the animal species and animal growth and
development stages to determine its crushing size, see Appendix A. Crushing size
determination should be carried out in accordance with the provisions of GB / T 5917.
 The quality grades of alfalfa meal are categorized into 5 grades
 Sensory assessment should be combined with alfalfa harvest period, visually inspect the
color and shape of alfalfa meal within the distance of the clearest visual object under
natural light. Smell the odor under normal conditions close to the tip of the nose. Twist
with fingers and evaluate the texture by touch.
