Dry matter and crude protein content
Fresh alfalfa plant had a DM content of 19.2 % and a CP content of 4.7 % (equivalent to 24.5 % CP of DM), which was in accordance with previous literature (Baraniak, 1990; Digman et al., 2013; Stødkilde et al., 2019). The cleared juice resulted in a DM content of 8.8 % with a CP content of 3.3 %, which is in line with previous result from alfalfa and clovers using the same double screw press technology (Damborg et al., 2020). After fermentation by endogenous bacteria, a pH of 5.7 was reached.
