What is Trichomonas infection?



Trichomonas infection one of the most common, non-viral sexually transmitted disease worldwide, which is caused by a tiny single-celled parasite called Trichomonas vaginalis. Almost 20% of all women will get a trichomonas infection during their reproductive years. Those who are infected with tichomonas often have such irritation as a foul smelling, greenish-yellow vaginal discharge, vaginal itching, burning pain, pain during sexual intercourse.





How to diagnose Trichomonas infection?



The conventioal method of Trichomonas identification is wet mount microscopy and culture. Culture takes 24-120 hours and needs patient to return to hospital for results. Wet mount microscopy is relatively fast but with much lower sensitivity compared with culture.
