PROPERTIES:
Grey and Nodular Cast Iron are iron-carbon-silicon alloys with a carbon content above 2.0%. Its difference with steel is that the latter is also a metal alloy formed essentially by iron and carbon, but with much lower carbon percentages, between 0.08 and 2%.

Gray cast iron is the most common, due to its characteristics such as low cost, high machinability. High fluidity in casting, allowing the casting of parts with thin and complex walls; This type of material is used on a large scale by the machinery and equipment industry, automotive, railway, naval and other industries.

Application examples are: Machine components such as bushings, pulleys, rings, machine tables and bases; Balances; Flanges; guide rulers ; Caps; Bearings; Couplings; pulley racks; spools and spindles.

Nodular cast iron is a grade of cast iron where the ductility is much higher, giving the material characteristics that bring it closer to steel. It maintains the characteristics of good machinability and reasonable dimensional stability. Its cost is slightly higher when compared to gray cast iron, due to the narrow ranges of chemical composition used for this material. Nodular cast iron is used in the industry to make parts that require higher impact strength compared to gray cast iron, as well as higher tensile strength, elongation and yield strength.
