Ropol, chemical name 2-bromo-2-nitro-1,3-propanediol, other names include bromonitrate, bacteriostatol, etc. Foreign trade name: Bronopol. It is a white crystalline powder, melting point: 122~130 °C, very soluble in water, ethanol, propylene glycol, ethyl acetate, etc., slightly soluble in oil, insoluble in chloroform, acetone, etc. In 1919, it was prepared by E. Schmidt and R. Wilkendorf, and after that, the British Pharmaceutical Association (BritishPharmacopociaCommissoin) announced its generic name Bronopol, and obtained a British patent for its use in agriculture in 1970.
