1.2738 tool steel is a pre-hardened alloy steel that conforms to the German standard.

It contains molybdenum and nickel as strengthening elements, and compared to 1.2311 of the same type, it has significantly better mechanical properties.

1.2738 is specifically designed for plastic injection molds. The material's characteristics are good machinability, high purity of the machining properties, and excellent surface quality.
1.2738 is an upgraded version of 1.2311 tool steel, usually supplied in a pre-hardened condition. The hardness in the supplied condition is 280-320 HB, and the hardness is uniform. The 1% external inclusion content increases its toughness.

It has good machinability, suitable for fine machining, can carry out precise cutting, has sufficient toughness, and is a true vacuum degassed steel.
