Description
Vitamin K2 is part of the vitamin K family, a group of fat-soluble vitamins. (This means that they are stored in the gastrointestinal tract and delivered into the body in the form of fat globules of chylomicrons.) You've probably heard of vitamin K, which is essential for the production of the proteins we need for blood clotting. Without vitamin K, we can't stop the bleeding. The connection was discovered in 1929 and won Henrik Damm and Edward Dorsey the Nobel Prize in 1943.
Vitamin K is divided into two categories: vitamin K1 and vitamin K2. The difference is at the molecular level. Vitamin K1 has a molecule called menaquinone.
